Lyn’s House is a community of those with and without learning disabilities based in Cambridge.

Our Mission
We are a Christian-inspired charity providing a space for hospitality and friendship amongst people with, and people without, learning disabilities. We seek to value each other not for what we achieve, but for who we are. We meet regularly as friends to share meals, outings, events, birthday and other celebrations, prayer, and worship. As core friends, volunteers, residents and supporters we develop lasting relationships, and in doing so provide a contrasting experience to the often intensely competitive academic and work settings of Cambridge.
In all we do, we try to offer, and be a sign of, the transformed relationships and fullness of life that the gospels point to.
Our History
Lyn’s House was founded in 2012 in a house on De Freville Avenue, Cambridge. Since then our community has flourished and expanded. In 2019 we moved our location to the Margaret Beaufort Institute on Grange Road.
Our Book
In November 2019 we were delighted that a book about Lyn’s House was published. The book, written by numerous people with very close associations to Lyn’s House, gives an excellent account of what makes Lyn’s House so special.
Our Research Project
In autumn 2023 we will begin a new, funded research project on the transformative potential of communities like Lyn’s House and how it might be shared elsewhere.
Our Governance
Lyn’s House obtained charitable status in 2020. We have a board of trustees and a steering group.
Safeguarding
Lyn’s House is fully committed to promoting the rights of vulnerable adults, particularly their right to be protected from harm, abuse and exploitation and to be involved in decisions that affect them.
MBIT
The community is now based in The Lodge, in the grounds of the Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology (MBIT) on Grange Road. We are not part of MBIT but greatly appreciate their hospitality, participation and support, and the use of their house and garden for larger events. We also want to bring the two communities together by sponsoring students who would live in Lyn’s House while pursuing courses or research in disability studies and related fields.
Lyn’s House is the working name for the Cambridge Friendship Trust, a charitable incorporated organisation registered with the Charity Commission in England and Wales with registration number 1187876.
